Weekly Update
Here is what we are working on this week.
Notes:
Reading: We are continuing to learn about fables and folktales.
Math:
ON: We are continuing Unit 2: Becoming Fluent with Addition and Subtraction. In this unit, students will cultivate an understanding of how addition and subtraction affect quantities and are related to each other, reinforce the multiple meanings for addition (combine, join, and count on) and subtraction (take away, remove, count back, and compare), further develop their understanding of the relationships between addition and subtraction, and recognize how the digits 0-9 are used in our place value system to create numbers and manipulate amounts.
ADV: We are continuing our unit on Understanding Plane and Solid Figures. In this unit, students will describe and analyze shapes by examining their sides and angles and partition shapes into equal shares by cutting, slicing or dividing. Additionally, students will represent halves, thirds and fourths using rectangles and circles to create fraction models, compare fractions, and understand what an array is and how it can be used as a model for repeated addition.
ACC: We are diving into division using models to help us understand the process. We will begin tracking our progress with multiplication facts by weekly timed tests each Monday.
Language Arts: We are learning about irregular plural nouns (e.g. feet, teeth, children, mice, fish).
Writing: We will continue working on an informational paragraph about pumpkins.
Social Studies: We will start our unit about Georgia Creek and Cherokee cultures, such as tools, clothing and homes. We are also focusing on historical figures (Mary Musgrove, Tomochichi, James Oglethorpe and Sequoyah).
Notes:
- Our field trip to the Fernbank Museum will be Tuesday, November 15th.
